Solve -8x < 64.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide both sides by 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is x > -8

hero (hero):

Complete Steps: -8x < 64 -64 < 8x -64/8 < x -8 < x 1. Original Problem: -8x < 64 2. Add 8x to both sides, Subtract 64 from both sides: -64 < 8x 3. Divide both sides by 8: -8 < x

@hero it means the same

hero (hero):

I know, but doing it the way I suggested avoids the ridiculous habit of needed to flip the inequality.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as i know if we multiply by (-1) to the both sides of an inequality the sign gets flipped

hero (hero):

It is not necessary to perform operations that require flipping the inequality. The entire idea of doing it disgusts me. It's one of the reasons so many students get math problems like these wrong.
