the question:The diagonals of an isosceles trapezoid are labeled 4x² and 8x+5. Find the value(s) of x. my response :4x^2=8x+5. Set 4x^2-8x-5 equal to 0, and factor it into (2x+1)(2x-5). From that you can conclude that x=-1/2 or x=5/2 is it understandable i just started practicing these problems yesterday so i might be off

my answer x=2.5 x=-.5

Your approach is 100% correct. Just one thing though - the solution cannot be negative as the length of a diagonal cannot be negative. So only the positive solution is the correct answer.
