how do you solve the equation 8x-5x=-27

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = -9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you get that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so to solve a 1 variable equation (or any equation for that matter) you need to isolate the variable you are solving for, so in this case x. first take 8x -5x and make that 3x using simple subtraction next divide by 3 to get x alone this leaves x = -9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8x-5x is the same as 3x.. so 3x=-27|||| THEN x=(-27/3)
