ella may's rectangular garden has a width that is seven less than three times its length. If the garden is surrounded by 74 feet of wooden fence, what are the dimensions of her garden?

help please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets call the length \(x\) so the width is seven less than three times \(x\) so we can write it as length = \(3x-7\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are told in a round about way that the perimeter is 74, and the perimeter is twice the length plus twice the width so you have \[x+x+3x-7+3x-7=72\] or \[8x-14=72\] solve from there
