|x+5|>1 I know the answers are x>-4 or x<-6, but how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

who gave u the answers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is a review. I want to know how to receive the answers though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answers are wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What are the answers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first u should define the value into negative and positive values x+5>1 and -(x+5)<1 then u can solve to find x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[|x+5|>1\]means either \[x+5>1\] OR \[x+5<-1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank You @satellite73 I forgot to make it -1. Thank You.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve each separately because you will get two separate intervals. first one \[x+5>1\iff x>-4\] second one \[x+5<-1\iff x<-6\]so your solutions are \(x<-6\) or \(x>-4\)
