Tea that sells for $2 a pound is mixed with a different tea that sells for $5 a pound to produce 40 pounds of a custom blended tea that will sell for $4.25 a pound. How many pounds of the less expensive tea should be used in the mixture.

Let Cheap Tea be x and Expensive Tea be y

Both tea will be mixed, to form 40 pounds, so x+y=40, that will sell for $4.25 a pound. How much this will cost? 40 pounds * $4.25 = $170

Okay, we have
x+y=40
Total cost $170

Tea that sells for $2 a pound is mixed with a different tea that sells for $5 a pound to produce 40 pounds

-> $2 cheap Tea -> 2x
-> 5$ exp. Tea -> 5y

It will cost $170
2x + 5y = $170

We have now the system
x + y = 40
2x + 5y = 170
