This will genuinely help you to learn each function, and it has the pictures and everything.

As for mitosis and meiosis,
mitosis occurs in somatic cells (these are all the body cells) and meiosis occurs in sex cells during reproduction.
Look at this animation for mitosis and how it splits (splitting is called cytokinesis)
