The median of a set of 81 consecutive integers is 45. What is the largest of the given numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do u mean by median???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the middle value of a series of numbers arranged in order of siz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it is impossible to find the largest term it can be even 45 or anything greater than 45

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that what I thought too acctualy the unswer is 85 I didn't understand this explanation ;Median refers to the middle number in a set of observations. To find the required number divide the number of integers by 2 to find out how many integers are there after the median, then add that number to the median.
When 81 is divided by 2 the quotient is 40.
Largest number of the given set of numbers = 40 + 45
= 85

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no for this one you require all the numbers series then only you can tell exactly otherwise it should be greater than or equal to 45

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah thats correct it should be 85 only in question it is given 81 consecutive integers it means that first term should be 45-40 = 5 and last term should be 45+40 = 85 so largest term is 85

thanks
