WW2 Question : Did the occupation of Jersey put Britain into a high threat level?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

someone help please -.- I need to hand it in tomorrow :"(

Nope, and here's why: The Channel Islands were actually demilitarized by Britain prior to the German invasion. They simply didn't see them as a strategic position, so they technically gave them up without a fight and tried evacuating anyone who wanted to leave. The Germans didn't know this, however, and invaded in force a few days later. That didn't put England into a "high threat level" since they had already decided to pull back from the islands anyway. To the Germans, though, it was a propaganda victory because of their "occupation" of British soil. Here's a link to the area with a bit more info: http://jersey.com/English/discoverjersey/occupationtoliberation/Pages/default.aspx
