how many years behind do you prdict the following information/virtual courseware will be? MIT & Harvard are creating free online technology courses. I use the online courseware on the MIT site now and it is very useful although before I was able to follow along and get something out of it I needed 6+ years as a self taught programmer and often the course material was out of date I wonder how current the material in this new program will be. http://money.cnn.com/2012/05/02/technology/harvard-mit-online/index.htm
i guess for as long as it can be.....
Hopefully, if they are not using traditional textbooks they will be able to stay current much easier. Hopefully.
How many "years behind", in what sense? There is no reason to think that the world class academics at both of these institutions wouldn't be teaching the most up to date version of their respective subject matters. Or are you asking something else?
James u have what I was asking correctly. MIT has been giving out of date stuff but to update anybody following this thread. MITx is currently doing a pilot course on electronics which I have joined and the material seems good but Electronics haven't changed allot in the past 50 years except the techniques to assemble electronics have greatly change...any who since electronics fundamentals really don't change this initial course isn't a good measurement but if its an indicator of things to come then I think these courses they are offering will be very beneficial and fun. --calmchess
