Jose and Karl were both exposed to the influenza virus at work. Jose had a flu shot made from killed influenza virus six weeks ago, but Karl has not gotten around to getting his vaccination yet. Are they likely to get sick from this exposure to the virus, and what is likely to happen if they are exposed to it again?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a.,Both Karl and Jose are likely to get sick this time since Jose's vaccine was dead, but neither will get it again once they acquire active immunity. b. Both Karl and Jose will get sick this time since Jose's immunity has had time to wear off, but Karl is more likely to get it again since he has only been exposed once. c. Karl will get sick and Jose will not this time, but Jose will be more likely to get it later since his immunity will be less recent than Karl's. d. Karl will get sick and Jose will not this time, but neither will get this influenza again since they both will have acquired active immunity to it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d it is because both were exposed and had developed antibodies or in other words had become immune

OpenStudy (anonymous):

vaccination is all about introducing organism's antigen so that body will make memory cells against tht particular organism so that vn u r exposed ur body will react faster against that pathogen.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, u dont get it after u got it already?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

llike when u get sick, do u get it again after? is that what ur saying?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Memory B cells are made so you have immunity to that particular strain of the flu after you've been exposed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya same as u get sick once u wont get later.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right so the answer is d?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

vaccines r dead or part of organism not functional organisms it is made virulent so that it wont harm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya

OpenStudy (anonymous):

once u get some infection, it is not that u wont get it later but ur body will react faster than previous one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks, so d it is..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank u

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok got to go catch u later keep learning and sharing
