use elimination method x+y=-7, 3x+y=-9, not enough numbers for me to figure this one out by my self

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x = -7-y \]\[3(-7-y)+y=-9\]\[-21-3y+y=-9\]\[-2y=12\]\[y=-6\]\[3x-6=-9\]\[3x=-3\]\[x=-1\]Therefore, x = -1 and y = -6. I'll let you do the understanding. :)
