slope-intercept method refers to using the slope and the y-intercept of a line to graph it.  This is why the x-intercept is not used.

the point is to find two points of the line so you can draw it. the x-intercept and "Count up 1 and right 3 from the y-intercept" bouth find a point of this line. So if you use one you don't need the other
