How much work is required to lift an object with a mass of 5.0 kilograms to a height of 3.5 meters?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The acceleration due to gravity near the earth's surface can be taken as constant. Thus, the gravitational force should also be constant. The work required to do so would be -(work done by gravitational force) = - (-mgh) [The extra - sign because, the force and displacement vectors are at an angle of 180 degree] = mgh Substitute the values m = 5kg, g = 10, h = 3.5, to get the answer.
