A fire is sighted in the forest from a helicopter. The forest ranger can send a crew from one of the two towers, as shown on the map. The distance between consecutive grid lines represents 0.5 mile. Which tower is closer to the fire? How can you show this using the distance formula?

distance formula,\[d=\sqrt{(x _{2}-x _{1})^{2}+(y _{2}-y _{1})^{2}}\] Fire(1.5, 2); A(1, 1); B(3, 1.5) Fire to A:\[=\sqrt{(1.5-1)^{2}+(2-1)^{2}}\]Fire to B:\[=\sqrt{(1.5-3)^{2}+(2-1.5)^{2}}\]
