HELP PLEASE!! What are the conditions for using the normal approximation for a sampling distribution of proportions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If n is your sample size and p is the probability of success, then the normal approximation is good when n is large and p is not too close to 0 or 1. The closer p is to 0 or 1, the larger my requirement for n. One source I found suggests the following requirements n*p >5 and n*(1-p) >5 Notice that p close to .5 allows for a pretty small sample size, but p close to 0 or 1 requires a much larger sample size.
