A taxi ride cost $29.40. The driver charged $3 plus $0.40 per 0.2 mile traveled. How far did the taxi travel on this trip?

Here's a good strategy to figure out problems like these... 1) How much would he charge if you drove 0.2 miles? 2) How much would he charge if you drove 0.4 miles? 3) How much would he charge if you drove 0.6 miles? ... Do you see a pattern? :)

You're right, it's $2.00 per mile. How can you use this info to figure out how many miles in a trip costing $29.40 (remembering that you pay $3.00 once and only once, just to get in the taxi!)
