A person rolls two dice. What are the odds in favor of throwing at least an eight?

Directrix (directrix):

(2,6) is one way to get an 8. What are the others?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(6,2), (5,3), (3,5), and (4,4)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well first find out haw many possiblities there are of 2 numbers adding 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

fifteen to twenty one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok sorry i was not supposed to just type a reply, but don't forget question is asking about odds, not probability count the number of ways you can get an 8 or better and compare that to the ways you can get a number less than 8 may want to fill in this table for future reference

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it is 5:7?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

probability = "successes"/"possibilities"... How many possibilities are there? 6 x 6 = 36 How many successes are there? 66 65 56 46 64 55 36 45 54 63 26 35 44 53 62 ----> 15 successes... so, probability is 15/36 = 5/12 then, the ODDS are success:failure 15 successes 21 failures 15:21 or 5:7
