5;10;20;40;80;160;320, is the doubling really necessary? Couldn't it just stop at maybe 160, or 320? When it gets high enough, bumping is unlikely and closing and reopening is probalby going to happen. Or, is that the entire point?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A pretty valid point @inkyvoyd

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i got to 700+ once...and im assuming the bumping you're talking about is on tutorials? well tutorials were never meant to be limited to bumps inky :p that's why we're petitioning for a section for tutorials or something...coz REAL questions here barely make it that long..if it does then nobody knows how to answer it

f(x) = 5*2^x

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

It should be increasing at first exponentially, but then have an asymtote, so we don't go insane pressing this bump question. I know this isn't one of those big problems like medals, but I just thought that I might wanted to add this. @farmdawgnation

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

Ugh. Just got pwned by a crash. I'm not going to re-write the essay I was composing, but I will add that the decision to do that was entirely intentional. That said, thanks for the feedback. We're constantly looking at how these mechanics play out in the wild. We're feeling pretty good about it at the current time. The percentage of questions answered before the asker leaves has jumped pretty significantly since the release of bump and close. So any changes that we make are going to be carefully considered. heh. Although, we've got bigger things in the oven at the moment, so it may be a spell before you see any changes in this regard. As lgb pointed out, this isn't optimized for the "tutorial" use case. And it isn't intended to be, either.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

^hmmm..is that a hint that they have plans on what to do with the tutorials >:)))

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Yup. They are going to burn them.
