Can somebody please elaborate descarte's rule of sign to find how many roots there will be for a cubic equation, or for any equation of degree n?

positive roots = number of sign changes in the poly (or less than by multiple of 2) negative roots, same thing after putting x = -x complex = total - positive and negative More detail here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Descartes%27_rule_of_signs
