A total of 392 tickets were sold for the school play. They were either adult tickets or student tickets. The number of student tickets sold was three times the number of adult tickets sold . How many adult tickets were sold?
If x is the number of adult tickets sold, then the number of students sold would be the total number of tickets sold minus the number of adult tickets sold or 392-x.The number of student tickets sold was three times the number of adult tickets sold . How would you write the equation for this last statement?
????
The number of student tickets sold (392-x) was three times the number of adult tickets sold (x). How would you write this equation?
A way to write this answer would be percents, so if the number of students tickets was three times larger than the number of adult tickets we can write it as 392= 3x+ 1x, you just need to find the value of X.
This is my own answer, I might be wrong, anyway, you might have to use division, so if 392 divided by 3 = ?, you minus that number by 4 in 392.
whats the answer?
You need to calculate it out yourself.
aha! got it, so if the bnumber of student tickets was 3 timea larger then the adult tickets simply divide 392 into four parts, now, multiply that by 3, thats the number of student tickets, the remaining number is the adult tickets. or you could do it backgrounds bu subtracting from the whole 4/4 (392) by 1/4 of the part you got (?) if your confused ill give you the answer, this can be wrtitten as x=(392/4)- 392
-294? that cant be right?
thats the number of students
and how did you get a negative?
so adults is 98?
yes, 392 divided by 4 is 83, 392 - 83 is the number of students, so yes, 83 is the number of adults
isnt it 98? not 83..
jinkings! you are right!
sorry, so yes, adults = 98, sorry I made it so hard on you :{)
