To find the difference, that is the amount that Marty get's paid per hour.

Just subtract what her earned for the 2nd hour minus that of the first hour.  and that'll get you the hourly wage. 

It is at this point where everything else pretty much makes sense.  If every hour he gets paid 9.5 then he must get paid a fixed amount for going to work at first.

59.5-9.5=50

So the equation is 50+9.5n
