why there is no mulitple medal system means we can give olny one medal thats not fair because some time situation are such that u cant decide which one is better ans ???

Hi @heena - I understand your frustration, and it's something that we are looking into. However, I would mention that under the old system, good answers were often not rewarded the way they should either.

For instance, 8 people respond, and 2 of them give good answers, but all 8 receive medals (very common under the old system). In this scenario, the good answers were actually not rewarded at all (because they received the same as everyone else). Under the new system, while we do perhaps need to look at expanding it, in this scenario at *least* one of the good answers would be rewarded more than the rest. Not perfect, but still a little better.

We will definitely continue to look at this issue though, and thank you for bringing it up!

actaully some question are also good plz make a column for good question like medal or anythig u can say flag :) and if u sayin abu the ans i ll say make rating vote means give two things like one user can give only one medal and if he/she thinks other ans is quite good make rating vote in form of star like good 2 star and best 3 star like that .. by this the best ans is also highlightened a well a the other ans which are realiable can get their appropriate response..

Good points @heena - and I can tell you that we're actually looking at many types of rewards systems, including your ideas (great minds think alike ;). for reward as i said first we will go through type
1)FOR GOOD QUESTION
make flag like flag or something as ur comment is highlihted in the post in that manner if any one like the qn the question get automatically highlighten
PRECAUTION : highlightening the qn can be done by other users only not from the asker... but use some bright colours for highlightening

2) FOR THE ANSWERS
make medal for the ans which is given by only from the asker because sometime it happen the asker dont get the answer according to their question but still the answer is given which is quite useful so make voting rate.. in form of stars by this other OS user can give more anwer as mostly it happens people dont open thoes quetion in which already medal is awarded and the quetion aked by asker dosent get proper response..
PRECAUTION: a)medals can only be given by the asker and rest people (other OS user) who liked the answer can only give vote in form of stars

and one more thing i wanna say but for a particular section that is biology.. i wanna share my view on this that many users here are interested to share amazing facts so y dont u guys make a forum for this in which every OS user can post amazing fact and these are selected by the mod that which one has to display on OS for example u guys whenever post any updates they are highlighted to every OS user when the user enter in OS like that make amazing fact should also be highlightened so atleast user will read this..

Heena, we sort of do this already. BioMed posts interesting links, TranceNova posts fun facts, Kma posts biology related puns and I post surveys and challenge questions from time to time. They are not technically tutoring problems (and so possibly don't belong on OpenStudy) but people tend to enjoy them.

There has been a *little* discussion of whether OpenStudy should expand to a platform where, with input from learners, experts can create resources like tutorials or a collaboratively produced wikibook or textbook. TuringTest started a similar thread in Feedback earlier this week with some good ideas in it - perhaps your idea ties in with that?

@AravindG, there have also been numerous posts by people who like it and see the advantages to it. I must say it fixes a number of problems with the old system - but, as you point out, it also produces some new problems. It is definitely very interesting to see all these different perspectives on it and as cshavley said, all this input is very important to discussions and decisions about the medal system.

the main prblem of the new medal system is that it brings a competition among people in answering first so that they get the best answer ,i hav seen numerous people post final answers without any wrking for the sake of getting medal first

In biology, I never give medals to people who just post the answer - or people who post the answer quickly without giving an explanation. Quite the opposite, I give warnings to these people. Particularly to people who snipe answers while other people are typing out a longer one.

If someone gives a more thorough answer later, you can take away the medal from the person who just sniped it and give it to the person who deserved it.

I agree that bio and chem are possibly more discussion oriented subjects than math and answers come from many different sources. But honestly, in practice it is very rare that the "best answer" isn't obvious, even if multiple people have posted in a thread and even if that answer was based on discussion or points proposed by other people.

Heena, we definitely appreciate your input!

I would also like to point out that SmartScore actually helps with this problem. Medals are not the only thing it counts - so if you helped, even if you weren't awarded a medal for it, it counts toward your level anyway. And it also considers the type of help you gave - you get a lot more for working with a person instead of just popping in, giving a one letter or number answer, and then abandoning them to the fates.

@lgbasallote i read the link and i would like to say that instead of best and good ans we can have voting rate which satisfy all the user and medal can only be given by asker u can read my scheme too :) anyways i and @apoorvk just given and shared our views now it depends on mod what they will gonna do :)
