The population of a colony of bacteria doubles every 19 hours. How long, in hours, does it take for the population to be approximately 2.0 times its original size? Answer correct to one decimal place.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look at the variable you have and make an equation "o" will be original size, and t will be time. 2o = o*2^(t/19). I think this is what you would use do you understand how I got this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then whts after tht?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well just set o to an arbitrary value like 1, because it doesn't matter what the orinal amount is it will still take the same amount of time to double. Then you would solve for t. Do you know what I mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then would it be log 2/ log 2 = some number divided by 19 = t

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay remeber that logx^n is the same as nlogx does this help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea so i am wright?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait lol yeah your right sorry i didn't realize you skipped a step
