Which method for integration? Is there a mnemonic or set of rules or a good write up in some book somewhere? how should i decide which method to use so i am not just spinning my wheels?

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

there are some very nice online notes here: http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/CalcII/IntTechIntro.aspx

OpenStudy (agreene):

Some of the methods should be apparent if they could work... ie: Partial Fractions wouldn't be applicable if conditions aren't met... But, I just learned all the methods and prefer certain ones (like, I tend to avoid trig substitution) and you just learn to see which to use with practice...

thanks the calc notes seems like a good page to have bookmarked
