Is the sequence geometric? 48, 46, 44, 42, ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know the difference between arithmatic and geometric sequences?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

arithmatic you add or subtract numbers in the list, geometric you multiply or divide. what do you think is going on in this one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to use the same number the whole time in either sequence. theres no number you can use to divide to move from term to term in that list

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then multiply

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay what number are you multiplying by, then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

46?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

each term in the list is being subtracted by 2...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its not geometric
