I need to write an critical lens essay so please help!
"The ultimate test of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands in moments of controversy and adversity”

Meaning don't judge a man when he is at ease but when he is having it tough and everyone is against him.

And we tend to look quite favorably upon those who have passed the test. You could consider using in your essay FDR or Abe Lincoln and contrast him with a lesser known president. Why are FDR and Abe remembered today? Well, they basically faced monumental challenges (Great depression / WW2, Civil War) and proved their worth. Lesser known presidents (Buchanan perhaps? Lincoln's predecessor) failed to do so when confronted with adversity.

Of course, you could find examples throughout history and most likely even in your own life as well to support your claims (or whatever it is you were assigned to do).

Basically what countonme said. A man who spends all of his time where he is comfortable and accustomed to things is less likely yo learn and grow as a person. When outside of your comfort zone, you're able to grow.
