equation #1 is that x+1 is less than negative one and less than 1 so they have lots of overlap

equation #2 less than or equal to 1 or greater than or equal to 1....would only overlap at 1

Equation #3 when less than 1 or when greater than 1....so that would not overlap at all and have the right answer
