What is the best way to get your brain to remember a foreign language over the summer?
I would suggest reading, writing, and watching films in the foreign language you're trying to remember. Do a little bit each day so that you don't overwhelm yourself. Also, if you can find someone else who speaks that foreign language, speak with him or her as often as you can.
hey Amanda, I've had the same experience last year, when I tried to master some basic English vocabulary. Listen to me, the most important thing in every language is vocabulary. I'd suggest picking up a famous book written in that foreign language, underline all the words you don't know, and memorize them ALL. Then re-read the book when the words in mind, read it out loud. I've managed to memorize about 3000 words last summer (150 words/day, for 20 days). It's easy, everyone can do it, and it really worth it, trust me! Good luck!
The way i keep my brain remembering languages is to, Listen to it, don't read or write it. Just listen to the language you want to learn for 30-minutes a day, and you'll be learning it faster than you can say: What is the best way to get your brain to remember a foreign language over the summer?. It's that easy :D Good luck Amanda!!.
Only thirty minutes a day, no more or less time. :)
Find things you like in this language and listen to them as much as possible: when you walk in the street, when you take the bus/train, when you're at home cooking, cleaning, etc. I listen to Japanese animations I like, converted in mp3, as much as possible and it helped me a lot to get used to the language. Beside learning vocabulary and grammar rules, I believe you learn a language by getting used to it, like babies learn their mother language by listening to what people say around them.
Total Immersion. Take the advice of Benny who spends his life learning new languages. http://www.fluentin3months.com/
