why is it easier to demolish a building than it was to build it?

This is a good biology question, as well as an engineering one. It is energetically favourable for systems to move toward entropy and disorder - that is, it takes a lot more energy to build something exquisitely organised, like a building, than it takes to build something disorganised, like a pile of rubble.
