In a horse shoe magnet ( U - shaped magnet) why should the wire be wounded in a different direction in both the sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
The open ends are of same polarity and the curved end is of opposite polarity. Draw yourself a diagram of the magnet with poles as described and it should make sense.
