State whether each of X, Y and Z are prokaryote or eukaryote, and identify one characteristic apparent in the micrographs (Figure 1, attached PDF) that supports each choice. Use a different characteristic for each one.

My guesses are: X - prokaryote: no membrane bound nucleus Y - eukaryote: cell wall Z - eukaryote: mitochondria

Hmmm, prokaryotes have no nucleus and simple organelles. Their DNA lies freely in cytoplasm. On the other hand, eukaryotes have nucleus, linear chromosome, double membrane, have internal membrane (endomembrane) and have endosymbionts (eg mitochondria, chloroplast, plastid). Hmm, you're right about Z. I think X is eukaryotes because those large black stuff is actually chloroplast, X also has nucleus with nucleolus in it. I'm not sure about Y because prokaryotes can have cell wall too.
