Katie has 3 cups of juice. Max has 4 cups of juice. Lily has 0.5 cups of juice. How much does Max and Katie need to give to Lily so they all have the same amount

lets see,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

holy crap i though this was simple, hold on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know me too!

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

You can find out what the "average" amount would be. Which would be (3+4+0.5)/3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I tried that, it was 2.5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that means each one has to have 2.5 cups?

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

Great. Yes. So how much would Kate have to give to Lily so Kate would be left with 2.5 c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait a minute, at first i did exactly that, but I made some errors in my calculations. Thank you. :)

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

Yeah, I couldn't easily develop a formula to determine all of this at once so I just figured out how much everyone should have to be equal and then figured out how much Kate and Max had to give up.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats what i had to do too. thanx again

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

You're welcome.
