(x^2-8x+7)/x-7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First, factor the trinomial in the numerator

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

factor the top bit and see if you can simplify

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know how to factor or know what that even means can you show me step by step

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need to simplify it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If they're having you do this problem, you've done factoring before. Factoring is when you turn a trinomial into the product of two binomials. So, for example, if you had x^2-4x+4, you'd turn it into (x-2)(x-2).

no iv never done factoring i have to learn how to by 4:00 today of im going to fail my test

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is on the rewiew

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why would it be on the review if you hadn't done it before? Check out some Khan Academy videos on factoring.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cuz its an online class whats the link

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

have you done long division of a polynomial nyan?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

iv learned synthetic division but just barely

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about polynomial division

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

you could use this - though long division is just as easy with this 'small' polynomial

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no just synthetic division nothing more

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in in a math class to advance for me i was placed here cuz there was no easyer classes open

OpenStudy (anonymous):

iv learned up to geometry

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

but not much algebra?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

right - this question is a bit higher than elementary algebra so i'm not surprised you are a little lost. I can only suggest you get hold hold of an elementary algebra book or look for something on line so you can start learning the basics. sorry i cant help you more
