The figure below shows AB = 3 units and BD = 4 units. If the area of triangle ADE is 60 square units, what is the area of the trapezoid BCED? A. 11.02 square units B. 24.56 square units C. 48.98 square units D. 53.84 square units

OpenStudy (amistre64):

it would be nice to recall how the area of similar triangles are ratioed

OpenStudy (amistre64):

A = bh/2 A = sbsh/2 = s^2 bh/2 looks like its affected by the square of the scalar

OpenStudy (amistre64):

so, 7s = 3 when s=3/7 is our scalar so the smaller triangle on top would be (3/7)^2 as much as the bottom if ive kept my thoughts right

OpenStudy (amistre64):

big area - small area = whats left of the trap i believe

Ok, thank you for your help. C:

youre welcome. I checked to make sure my idea was an answer, and its there; so it cant be too far off
