How can special right triangles help me find side lengths?

if you know the side lengths of the specials, then you .... know ..... well, the side lengths of the specials.

you can use them to find a few other odds and ends, but for the most part you basically need a calcuator

this question is a general question, there is no side lengths or angles, they just want to know  how special right triangles make it easier to get the side lengths.. i dont undertsand either..

a 45-45-90  has sides of
  1-1-sqrt(2)

as such, if youre given a 45-45-90 and one side length of say 3; then you know the other sides are 3 and 3sqrt(2) given that the first 3 was a leg.
