I guess to prevent electrical fires and prevent your self from getting electrocuted, well if your dealing with high voltages I suppose.

one safety tip is to ensure the power supply is off when handling the electrical circuits.
another is to ensure your hands are dry when dealing with the circuit wires.
its also good to wear rubber shoes to prevent shock i think not a 100% sure why people do this though.

1) While using electric equipments try to stand in an insulator over the floor to avoid the shocks.
2) Check the grounding very often.
3) Dont keep moisture things near high voltages.
4)Always use fuse.
5) keep check the voltage levels at the terminals of the plug using a proper multimeter every often.
6) It is safe to the electrical equipments if we use some voltage regulators.
