Global warming is caused by changes in the atmosphere. The atmosphere becomes less able to reflect solar energy back into space, but it is still thick enough to trap it if the energy reaches earth. So unsurprisingly, the substances which contribute to global warming are gasses humans release into the atmosphere which change it in bad ways...
