I just had an idea that is probably already suggested - tagging system. For example, the math group could have some simple tags to make it easier to view questions - along with filtering. Although I do realize that people might not know how to use tagging, maybe higher leveled members could have the privilige of tagging another person's post.

You're correct, this has been mentioned several times before. We consider this and sub-topics to be roughly the same basic concept, and we're working on how that would integrate into the site as it is. We're probably at the very very least a month off from having time to even look at this, however.
