What expression shows the length, BC, of the base of the stand?
is it Cot?
cos------- cah sin------- soh tan------- toa o=opposite side h=hypotenuse a=adjacent Which sides do you know in respect to the angle?
i know the opposite is 7, but I don't know which function to use for it
Rather, I don't know which other leg i need to solve for (hyp or adj since the angel is in between them)
Angle*
Great you know the opposite. The base in respect to the angle is called the adjacent side. Which one of those trig identities has the opposite and adjacent side in them?
tangent
Oh I didn't read the problem correctly. I didn't see I had to solve for the base.
Yes yes \[\tan(55^0)=\frac{o}{a}=\frac{7}{base}\] \[\tan(55^0)=\frac{7}{base}\] solve for base \[base=\frac{7}{tan(55^0)}\]
Would this make 7 Cot 55 the same thing as 7 /Tan 55? being recipricals and what-not?
@Romero
yes
\[\frac{\sin(x)}{\cos(x)}= \tan(x)\] \[\frac{1}{tanx}= \frac{1}{\frac{\sin(x)}{\cos(x)}}=\frac{\cos(x)}{\sin(x)}=\cot(x)\]
