CHANGE BEST ANSWER TO BEST REPLY! It's been mentioned, and something tells me I would get answer sniped about 50% less with this changed. All the people that have been answer sniping me are newbies - people who subconciously think this is yahoo answers.
And, I always tell them it's not allowed, and they apologize - they obviously don't know what they are doing is against CoC...
Yeah, we've discussed that and will continue to do so. I think the bigger problem is that we don't do a great job of forcing people to read the CoC ahead of time. But that's a whole 'nother pandora's box.
if you make the first page the code of conduct page, it might force them to read thru it in hopes that it tells them how to use the site ....
Does ANYONE read the CoC on ANY site?
I don't think the answer is to try to get people to read a list of rules. People hate that kind of thing. I wouldn't do it myseld. And yet I can see how simply changing the wording slightly to "Best reply" or "Best explanation" can change peoples' perception about the kind of thing they should post or the kinds of posts they're supposed to reward.
In short, I think this is a simple tweak that could potentially make a big difference.
most people try to follow rules. If the new people are sniping questions, then its most likely that they simple havent seen the rules in a proper light.
Yeah, that's not my point. People try to follow rules, sure. They just don't read lists of rules. That's not the way to effectively convey rules.
what are those things called where they get a bunch of people together to rate the performance of certain things? then the results of the surveys are hashed out at a committee in las vegas and ends up with the cheif financial accountant getting arrested?
ah yes, focus groups lol
@SmoothMath, I'm not arguing against the change. I think it might be a good change for other reasons than inkyvoyd listed. But, that's just my 2 cents, o course.
well i for one dont read the terms and conditions of anything i install i just check agree.....well my point is i didnt read the CoC until 5 months after i signed up :p lol...weirdly i did not get any complaints from anyone haha =)))) seems as the CoC got stricter, i got more tutor-y on my own strange coincidence haha
I have an idea. A very bad idea. We could do a quiz on the sign up - on what you are and aren't supposed to do/
Yes, it'd make signup a pain. But hey.
I feel like that would be counterproductive toward the goal of getting more users. :P
uhmm what about pop-ups? hypothetically of course..
Rules pop-ups? I just vomited.
lol i dunno =)) openstudy already has those pop-up hints for new users...just add some reminders in those pop-ups
