Like a mayor of a town, the nucleus directs most of the activity in a cell. The nucleus holds the DNA, which dictates the proteins a cell produces. Every cell has a complete set of genes in a nucleus. The nucleus is the largest cellular organelle in animals. The nucleus of the plant cell shows a complex organization. In all eukaryotic cells the nucleus is generally the largest and most centrally located cell structure, although in plant storage cells certain kinds of vacuoles may be larger and more conspicuous.
