Describe a real-life situation that could be modeled by a function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lots of things. A function could model the cost of a long distance call if it were pay-per-minute. The amount of fuel used as a function of distance. The amount of food you need to order as a function of the number of people.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

even numbers are functions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

...what? ^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Jemurray3 - At it's simplest, consider the function \(n=2k\). No matter what you put in k you will get a even number, if k is an integer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Even numbers are functions" is a blatantly incorrect statement. Sure, there are functions who map integers to random numbers, but that doesn't mean the statement made above makes any kind of sense.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know why I said random.... too many Monte Carlo simulations. map integers to *even* numbers.
