Predict the chemical formula of butyne, having one carbon-carbon triple bond.

OpenStudy (jfraser):

organic naming is all about regcognizing the fragments that make up the names of compounds. the prefix But- means a carbon chain 4-C's long. The suffix -yne means a triple bond somwhere in the chain. Since that's all the pieces of the name, the remainder of the molecule must be filled with hydrogens.

and the formula would be C4H6
