I've been to the petrified forest before and what it is is there are pieces of petrified trees scattered all around the area. It's considered a national park and you have to pay to get in and when you do, they will give you a paper to say you've payed. You will find petrified logs, stumps, and broken pieces of the trees. The area is mostly sand and rock and a couple of small dirt hills you can climb on. They have a dirt road that you drive on trough until you get to the end of the forest. You are not allowed to keep the rocks but your are allowed to buy some at the end where there is a gift shop. Which is funny when you think about it. Sorry if it's not much but it's been about 4 years since I've been there.
It's also one big vast open area with mountain off in the distance.
