How does diabetes affect the muscular system? Or does it even affect it at all?
If it doesn't affect it please let me know so i can pick another system.
Hmm, what cause diabetes at the first place? Diabetes can be due to insulin deficiency or insulin resistance. Then, what's the function of insulin? insulin stimulate glucose transporter 4(GLUT4) to move to cell membrane and fuse with them for glucose uptake into cell then, what other effect of insulin? increase glycogen synthesis from glucose, decrease glycogen breakdown and also increase protein synthesis from amino acid, insulin also inhibit glucagon secretion Think of what happens if not enough insulin present, or cell don't respond to insulin? cell can't make new muscle cell (because of less protein synthesis). Also, no insulin or no respond to insulin means the GLUT4 won't move to cell membrane for glucose uptake, so cell has no glucose to 'eat' and it becomes starve. There's no insulin to stop glucagon from releasing, causing the glycogen in muscle to keep breaking down. At the end, individual get weight loss, muscle weakness and wasting. I hope this helps.
Thank youuu! :D
