The Germans who arrived here first found much land throughout the East and MidWest territiory that reminded them of home, particularly Bavaria and Baden. Those Germans who were fortunate enought to have made inroads in "Amerika" became "agents" who then "recruited" German citizens seeking a better life to come to the U.S. permamently. Tjis was particularly true following the failed revolution in 1848.
