Parth (parthkohli):

A bitter truth has existed in the history of OpenStudy. Two, in fact. 1) Answering directly. 2) Asking just the answer AND NOT GIVING THE MEDAL TO THE ONE WHO EXPLAINS. Being members of this site, it is a shame to see and feel these kinds of behaviours on this site. I am not a mod, but I certainly do want people keenly asking for how the answer is done. Come with me, let's start a revolution, a learning revolution. A revolution that changes this site, internet, the globe and the universe! =)

Parth (parthkohli):

A bit too much, but worth it :)

Parth (parthkohli):

I also like @inkyvoyd 's suggestion of limiting the amount of questions.

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

I made a rant about the medals issue, but then I realized that the score meant nothing, and even though all I care about is my level (me being the scumbag that I am (take that, mod)), nobody else even cares that much about the score, and it should be about teaching and learning. Still @ParthKohli has a vewy good point.

Parth (parthkohli):

Any solutions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

agree xD

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

We just got rid of about 90% of those users by banning one person. Trolool.

Parth (parthkohli):

We did. CoreyContini, hithere, openstudyis***, inkyis***.. all of them were trolls.

Parth (parthkohli):

We might get these kind of people in the future, also, the Internet Protocol keeps changing once in a while, so they might get back @inkyvoyd

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

I don't care. I am happy.

Parth (parthkohli):

^ Me too ^-^

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i should make a parthis***

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i have tried to find a solution to this actually but i have not...if banning them is the solution as of now...i have a loooong list >:)))

OpenStudy (mattfeury):

If you see someone just giving answers, please click Report Abuse. That is behavior that is against our mission and moderators are enforcing it. Sometimes they can't see everything though, so please report when you see it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i give you medals parth ^.^ and other ppl as well

OpenStudy (carniel):

1st off it not about medals... 2nd Moderator are already aware of the people answering directly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Totally agree with your viewpoint @ParthKohli - the question is, and always has been, how to best influence that type of positive behavior without intrinsically changing the value of OpenStudy (a place to come get the help you need). So, one of the major steps we have taken is introducing SmartScore - where you are rewarded for your interactions with helpers in many more ways than the previous model - where it depended on getting medals (and only medals). But more importantly, I look at this as a cultural issue, more specifically the culture of OpenStudy. It is up to users like yourself, moderators, and administrators like me to make sure that we reward the correct behavior, and report and advise the wrong behavior. Sometimes it means reporting abuse, sometimes it means gently telling the asker about OpenStudy's Code of Conduct. Just know that we are on the same page in regards to what we *want* OpenStudy to be. As always, we depend on the community to get us there. Thanks everyone, great topic here!

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

@cshalvey , are you seriously encouraging me to report every answer sniper?

Parth (parthkohli):

Complete agreement with @cshalvey SmartScore is one of the bravest and wisest move in the history of OS, and I disagree with people who liked the levels. @satellite73 Congo for being a mod here.

Parth (parthkohli):

Wait, it's blues.. :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@inkyvoyd - well, hopefully yes. But it seems you're saying that there are a LOT of 'answer snipers' correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And yeah, @blues got sneaky with the profile pic - uber confusing ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@inkyvoyd or show them the CoC

Parth (parthkohli):

I have an example right here. We have an answer fiend who is CURRENTLY ASKING QUESTIONS. I don't want to take the name. But, users need to learn to report, because the amount of people like these are boosting up.

OpenStudy (blues):

My Surly Crosscehck and Sat's beach cruiser are entirely dissimilar. Not a constructive comment, but as you brought it up...

Parth (parthkohli):

Lol, sorry.. got confused with two bikes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

xD hahaha

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Get ready.

Parth (parthkohli):

^ To/for?

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

We have a pair of ask answerers.

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

I'm going to stop, becaue i think my point has been taken.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ha I would think so

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

@cshalvey , sometimes there are a bunch, sometimes, none at all.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Totally understood @inkyvoyd - and to be honest, there will *always* be situations like this on OpenStudy. The key is reducing them, we can't focus on eliminating them (because it's frankly impossible). The main thing is that we all work together on making OpenStudy the best place for learning, not the best place to get your answers...

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

@ParthKohli is a bike noob right @blues

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

@cshalvey , I say it's the best place for both - (insert @lgbasallote 's house facepalm here)

OpenStudy (carniel):

I disagree with the SS scoring system. I rather have the levels back.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think we can stop this ourselves. Just report all people who are not following the rules and don't hesitate to give medals to people who interact and give long explanations. At the end of every week, we could perhaps post the number of users suspended(by we, I mean the mods) that week. This would warn other such users from following their habits. Once this is enforced, I feel The number of users being suspended will gradually increased, and as @ParthKohli says, our 'learning revolution will be a grand success!! I totally agree with ParthKohli and @cshalvey in this matter.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry, gradually decrease!!

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

lol,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nice thinking @Pratu043

Parth (parthkohli):

He got the most important line wrong lolz...nice work @pratu043
