If you own 6 hats and are taking four on vacation. In how many ways can you choose 4 hats from the six?

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

The formula for \(6C4\) is what you want\[{6! \over {4!(6-4)!}}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be using combination then?

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks!

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

You're welcome.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So if doing the problem "3 bananas are to be selected froma group of 9. In how many ways can this be done?" Would you use nPr or nCr?

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

That would also be combinations.

OpenStudy (kropot72):

You would use nCr. When the three bananas are selected the way the bananas are arranged does not matter. Therefore you are not dealing with a permutation
