The factors that led to the Russian Revolution of 1917 were: Food was in short supply - because of World War I, food was in short supply leading to protests in St. Petersburg Russian involvement in World War I - The Russian army was humiliated against the Germans in a crushing defeat Thousands of people killed on Bloody Sunday - demonstrators were fired upon in 1905, but people would remember this atrocity Nobility owned all the land - workers and peasants went on strike and demonstrated for land reform in St. Petersburg Low wages of the working class - the working classes in Russia had always been mistreated The only two factors that didn't really figure into the Russian Revolution were the military support for Nicholas II. He actually lost the support of the military due to his terrible leadership during World War I and because of the demonstrations in St. Petersburg (or Petrograd as it was known). His abdication of the throne occurred as a result of the February revolution, though there would be another later that year.
